A Passivity-Based Framework for Stability Analysis and Control Including Power Network Dynamics

The ongoing efforts by many countries worldwide to increase the share of renewable energy sources in power generation has changed nature existing grids and introduced numerous stability-related issues. To address these problems, more extensive detailed stability analysis studies are therefore needed. Driven this need, article, we present a passivity-based framework for control design that allows accurate modeling both network system components while facilitating derivation completely decentralized results. In particular, proposed approach relies on formulation as dynamical multivariable system, which is shown be passive, even when network’s dynamic lossy taken into account. application passivity conditions bus dynamics then further exploited, together with incorporation models components, guarantee asymptotic interconnected system. Moreover, discuss opportunities provided regarding higher order dynamics, significant results manner effective distributed mechanisms. These finally verified through demand-side voltage droop controller several simulations two typical test systems.
